Green Hope was founded by Robert Snyder and Pooja Patel in 2011 after a volunteering trip to Arusha, Tanzania. While volunteering at Lasting Bless, a local primary school, Robert and Pooja met Harriet Joel, Green Hope Nursery's current headmistress. During their time in Arusha, Robert and Pooja visited Harriet's home, and discovered her dream of one day being able to open her own school to help the children of her village.
Green Hope is now a fully recognized, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are devoted in our fight against poverty, seeing education as humanity's greatest weapon against it. Currently, we are working with Harriet Joel and her dream of a world class school. From curriculum development and community organization to institutional management and donor outreach our non-profit does all it can to ensure Green Hope Nursery will become an academically rigourous and self sufficient institution.
The vision of The Green Hope Orphanage, Inc. is to have the children of rural Tanzania equipped with the academic foundation and personal motivation to create opportunity, develop community, and combat poverty. We believe education provides children the capability to overcome poverty, bettering themselves and their communities.
The Green Hope Orphanage, Inc. provides financial, administrative, and academic support to educational institutions in underserved, low-income communities in rural Tanzania. Our assistance is targeted at institutions run with a local perspective, integrating themselves into the community, and ensuring the needs of those it serves is met.
Every summer Green Hope holds a four week long volunteer program to the Green Hope Nursery school in Olgili, Tanzania. During this time, university students help introduce and implement new teaching methods and administrative techniques to the nursery school. In doing so, our volunteers gain classroom and administrative experience while immersed in the culture and daily life of rural Tanzania. Volunteers also have the opportunity to explore the country, such as hiking Kilimanjaro and Meru, visiting the scenic national parks on safari, and enjoying small towns across northern Tanzania.
We’re an American nonprofit incorporated and operated by university students to assist in the financial, academic, and administrative support of the Green Hope Nursery School in Olgilai Village, Arusha, Tanzania.
