The Green Hope Orphanage

Fighting Poverty Through Education

About Green Hope

We’re an American nonprofit incorporated and operated by university students to assist in the financial, academic, and administrative support of the Green Hope Nursery School in Olgilai Village, Arusha, Tanzania.
Our History

Green Hope was founded by Robert Snyder and Pooja Patel in 2011 after a volunteering trip to Arusha, Tanzania. While volunteering at Lasting Bless, a local primary school, Robert and Pooja met Harriet Joel, Green Hope Nursery's current headmistress. During their time in Arusha, Robert and Pooja visited Harriet's home, and discovered her dream of one day being able to open her own school to help the children of her village.

Green Hope is now a fully recognized, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are devoted in our fight against poverty, seeing education as humanity's greatest weapon against it. Currently, we are working with Harriet Joel and her dream of a world class school. From curriculum development and community organization to institutional management and donor outreach our non-profit does all it can to ensure Green Hope Nursery will become an academically rigourous and self sufficient institution.

Projects

Administrative Framework
Since its inception, Green Hope has striven to be transparent and accountable. Our administrative framework outlines the day to day operations of the school. It creates a system of record keeping and reporting, as well as, creating checks and balances from both local and international sources.
Classroom Expansion
The culmination of all our work, classroom expansion will allow Green Hope to serve more students, hire more staff, and change more lives. The crux of this project is the creation of three brand new classrooms, alongside investment in crucial infrastructure, and campus beautification.
Curriculum Development
Throughout the year our volunteers work to develop new lessons and activities to be implemented in the classroom. Our focus is to utilize games and the body to teach abstract concepts, which greatly reduces the need for traditional teaching materials and increases our student's engagement.

Volunteer

An organization made up of hard working, passionate people who care about the education of students in developing countries
Our Volunteers

Every summer Green Hope holds a four week long volunteer program to the Green Hope Nursery school in Olgili, Tanzania. During this time, university students help introduce and implement new teaching methods and administrative techniques to the nursery school. In doing so, our volunteers gain classroom and administrative experience while immersed in the culture and daily life of rural Tanzania. Volunteers also have the opportunity to explore the country, such as hiking Kilimanjaro and Meru, visiting the scenic national parks on safari, and enjoying small towns across northern Tanzania.
